B-24M Liberator, s/n: 44-50535
The Incident:
S/N 44-50535 was on a ferry flight from the USA to the UK. The aircraft left Keflavík at 11:15. Two farmers were working outdoors at Nesjum when they saw big aircraft coming from the west and flew out over the sea and crashed in the ocean ca 2 miles from the shore. The USAAF operation center in Reykjavík was notified and a few minutes later a number of US aircraft searched the area but nothing was found.
The Crew:
Pilot David G Koch and his crew of 9 were killed in the crash.

Type: B-24M Liberator
The B-24M became the last production model of the B-24. Total 19.256 B-24 were built. 2.593 of the number built flew only the course between the factory and the scrapheap.
