Douglas Boston (Havoc) Mk. III, S/N BZ549
The Incident:
On a non-operational flight BZ549 on the North Atlantic delivery
from Canada to the UK, crashed at RAF Airfield Reykjavík Iceland. The Aircraft
approached too fast and did not touch down until well down the runway.
The Pilot was warned to touch down as near to the beginning of the runway as possible but failed to carry out this instruction.
The Crew:
Flight Lieutenant (F/L) Kenneth David Clarson RAAF, Navigator was killed.
Flying Officer (F/O) Peter Ronald Maitland RCAF, Pilot was injured in the crash.
F/L Clarson is buried in the Reykjavík (Fossvogur) Cemetary, Iceland
