The Accident:

An unknown Icelandic fisherman saved Lieutenant Champlain after forced landing. The cause for the forced landing was engine fire. The fisherman was after this incident called “Champlain’s Hero“ Lt. Champlain suffered bad burn injuries and was flown to the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C. The story of his burn injuries and the healing was in January issue of the Readers Digest Magazine. Lt. Chaplain was later promoted to higher rank in the USAAF.

Lt. Champlain married an Icelandic girl named Áróra Björnsdóttir from Reykjavík. They lived in San Diego Ca. and had two children.
(Áróra was born May 17. 1922 and died July 7. 2009)
